Welcome to the Year 6 Year Group Page!
Mrs Hey and Mr Munro teach year 6, supported by Mrs Evans and Mrs Philbey.
Read on below for an overview of our exciting learning journey in 2022/23.
Autumn – The World at War
The children explore in detail the key events that led to the outbreak of the Second World War, as well as key turning points and events that brought an end to the conflict. We reflect on social and economic factors that influenced these events, drawing parallels with contemporary issues. Children meet a number of key characters and develop a sound understanding of the causes and effects of significant events during the war, as well as the impact of war on our own locality. At the same time, they are challenged to consider a range of moral issues presented by world-changing events such as the Holocaust and the dropping of the atomic bombs.
Spring – Extreme Earth
From the hottest to the coldest continents, the wettest to the driest climates, the highest to the lowest points on earth and many other extremes in between, children will be taken on a global adventure of the most biologically diverse and least hospitable places on our planet.
Below the surface, we will explore the cause and consequences of natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. Having experienced the devastating conditions and events that our planet has to offer, we will explore how we, the human race, respond to these catastrophes as well as evaluating the catastrophic impact that we can have on the natural world.
Summer – Scream if you wanna go faster!
